Celebrating Matt Flaherty’s Promotion to Director of Building Decarbonization

We are thrilled to announce that Matt Flaherty, previously Senior Associate of Building Decarbonization, has been promoted to Director of the Building Decarbonization team at Clean Energy Works. After a thorough two-month open job search, the Leadership Team unanimously extended this well-deserved offer to Matt in recognition of his exceptional performance, dedication, and remarkable contributions to the organization.

As the Director of Building Decarbonization, Matt and his team will lead engagement with utilities, regulators, and policymakers at the federal, regional, state, and local levels to scale adoption and implementation of inclusive utility investments. He will develop and support partnerships with industry associations, community champions, public advocates, and others to catalyze action on inclusive utility investments with strong and sound consumer protections, helping ensure an equitable and inclusive clean energy transition. 

Prior to Clean Energy Works, Matt Flaherty was a part of the Indiana University Environmental Resilience Institute where he led policy and program implementation that assisted local governments in advancing climate action and community resilience. His research experience included vital areas such as energy federalism, energy insecurity, and utility disconnection issues, further demonstrating his passion for driving positive change in the energy landscape. Beyond his accomplishments in the energy sector, he also serves as an at-large city council member in Bloomington, Indiana, showcasing his commitment to public service and community engagement.
