Founded in 2014, Clean Energy Works aims to accelerate equitable investments in the clean energy economy. Clean Energy Works has provided support to electric cooperatives, investor owned utilities, and utility regulators as well as place-based organizations in 20 states. These contributions include writing investment plans for utilities in both North Carolina and Arkansas that have launched inclusive utility investment programs based on the Pay As You Save® (PAYS®) system, securing millions of dollars of low cost capital for investment in service areas recognized for persistent poverty.
Clean Energy Works has developed deep expertise in site-specific utility investment and cost recovery for clean energy solutions. Applications include building energy upgrades for efficiency and electrification, electrifying transit and school bus fleets, and on-site solar power. For this work, Clean Energy Works garnered international attention through awards and endorsements from Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the Keeling Curve Prize, and the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance. Most recently, Clean Energy Works was part of a team named as a finalist for the 2030 Climate Challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
