Trenton Allen, Managing Director and CEO of Sustainable Capital Advisors, is an experienced energy and banking professional with nearly 20 years and $18 billion in transaction experience. Mr. Allen has financed a wide range of infrastructure projects including, water, wastewater, energy efficiency, fossil and renewable energy for utility, business and governmental clients. Mr. Allen is a frequent speaker at major energy conferences and is widely regarded as a thought leader in the financing of clean energy projects. Mr. Allen is passionate about energy security and creating solutions that provide energy access to underserved communities around the world.
Ken Alston is the Chief of Staff for New Energy Nexus. New Energy Nexus (formerly known as the California Clean Energy Fund) supports clean energy entrepreneurs with funds, accelerators and networks in California, China, India, Southeast Asia, and East Africa. His work includes the CalSEED startup fund, managing the mobility & energy storage program, and developing international partnerships. Prior to this role, Mr. Alston worked at the White House and U.S. Department of Energy. At DOE, he was Special Advisor to the U.S. Secretary of Energy. Mr. Alston co-founded the Department of Energy’s Clean Energy Investment Center, chaired the Department’s Energy Finance Working Group, led the Department’s efforts to secure $4 billion in commitments for the White House Clean Energy Investment Initiative, and was an advisor on Power Africa. Mr. Alston’s past experience includes investment firms Penta Group and Investor’s Circle, technology startup Simbol Materials, and strategy consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton. He holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, an MS in Environment and Resources from the Stanford School of Earth, Energy, and Environmental Sciences, where he was a Chevron Fellow, and a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar and Holland Scholar.
Dr. Holmes Hummel
Clean Energy Works was founded by Dr. Holmes Hummel to accelerate investments in the clean energy economy with inclusive financing. As the champion for the Pay As You Save® (PAYS®) system, Dr. Hummel led Clean Energy Works to win the FiRe Award for high-impact innovation at the Bloomberg New Energy Finance “Future of Energy Summit.” Dr. Hummel also serves on the board of Cornerstone Capital as well as Cleantech Open. Previously, Dr. Hummel served as the Senior Policy Advisor in the Department of Energy’s Office of Policy & International Affairs from 2009-2013. In addition to prior work with energy innovators in the Silicon Valley, Dr. Hummel earned a doctorate degree from Stanford University for interdisciplinary research on energy technology scenarios that achieve 100% clean energy for all.
